French national team manager Didier Deschamps announced the squad that will represent France at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, speaking from Paris on Thursday.
The list features France's star players such as Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann and Manchester United's Paul Pogba. Meanwhile, Olympique de Marseille striker Dimitri Payet has been left out from the squad due to a knee injury.
"A final list is always difficult to assemble. I've said it for weeks, months, because of the quality of the players, with significant competition and players who today are not in the [final] 23 but who would have deserved to be," said Deschamps.
"But I still have only 23 posts, so obviously, it's a lot of analysis, discussion, reflection until arriving at the final decision. I say it often, but it is the bad side to being a coach. We cannot please everyone," he added.
Deschamps will officially submit his squad list to FIFA on June 4.
