Unusually large amounts of water continued to flow down the Stubai Glacier, the biggest of its kind in the country for skiing, Wednesday. Despite the snow standing at some 3,200 metres (10,498 ft) above sea level, experts believe rising temperatures caused by global warming is the primary cause of the melting snow and ice. According to experts, parts of the Alps are now registering a loss of between one metre (3.2 ft) and one metre and a half (4.9 ft) of snow and ice each year. In a bid to protect the glacier, authorities have intervened and are using the technique of covering it with white blankets in the hope of protecting the tourist attraction.
