Foodies with bursting wallets were salivating at the 'Eat the World DXB Festival' in Burj Park, Friday, as they got a chance to try the 'Burg Khalifa', a gold-laced burger selling at the jaw-dropping sum of $63 (€59).
British food truck company 'The Roadery' developed the luxury burger with locals in mind. Named after Dubai's landmark skyscraper, the Burg Khalifa contains four high-end Wagyu beef patties, truffled cheese, foie gras that has allegedly been ethically sourced, and saffron mayonnaise. The luxury edibles are all topped with a 24-carat gold burger bun.
The Roadery food truck company owner Dan Shearman explained the concept: "We wanted to do something next level, something that was fitting with the luxury of Dubai, gold cars, diamond platted cars. Why not a gold burger?"
Though expensive, Shearman said that there did seem to be a demand: "It's 230 AED which is a premium in terms of burgers. We've got our normal burgers which are also great, but people seem to love this; it's the next level."
