SOT, Donald Trump, US President: "We've had very successful negotiations, we think they'll be successful in the end. The other side is tired of war, everybody is tired of war. That's been a particularly long and gruesome one."

SOT, Donald Trump, US President: "I'll be meeting personally with Taliban leaders in the not-too-distant future. And we'll be very much hoping that they will be doing what they say they are going to be doing. They will be killing terrorists, they will be killing some very bad people, they will keep that fight going."

SOT, Donald Trump, US President: "We've had tremendous success in Afghanistan in the killing of terrorists, but it is time, after all of these years, to go and to bring our people back home."

SOT, Donald Trump, US President: "So we will be bringing it down to 8,000, to approximately 8,600 in that vicinity, and then we'll make our final decision [at] some point in the fairly near future. But this was a very spirited agreement, there was a lot of talk, there was a lot of everything, they've been trying to get this for many years. And just, it's time."

US President Donald Trump said he would be meeting with the Taliban leaders "in the not-too-distant future" during a press conference in Washington DC on Saturday, the day the US signed an agreement with the Taliban.
"We've had very successful negotiations; we think they'll be successful in the end. The other side is tired of war, everybody is tired of war. That's been a particularly long and gruesome one," Trump said.
He added: "I'll be meeting personally with Taliban leaders in the not-too-distant future. And we'll be very much hoping that they will be doing what they say they are going to be doing. They will be killing terrorists, they will be killing some really bad people, they will keep that fight going."
The United States signed a deal with the Taliban earlier on Saturday, in the Qatari capital city of Doha. The agreement envisages a gradual reduction of the US troops in Afghanistan from the current reported 12,000 troops to 8,600 troops in 135 days with the reported timeline of 14 months set for the full US and NATO withdrawal.
