Potsdam music club the 'Pirschheide' showed off its lip-shaped urinals on Monday.
The men's bathroom sparked controversy after a local newspaper published photos of the music venue, which is due to open in May, featuring lip shaped pissoirs that resemble women's mouths.
The local women's council, along with local politicians, denounced the pissoirs and their purpose as sexist and misogynistic by writing an open letter to the media. This sparked a political debate that reached the local parliament.
Venue owner Andreas Oheim rejected the claims, saying the urinals, which were designed by Dutch artist Meike van Schijndel, are a joke. "You urinate into a women's mouth - although it does not have to be a women's mouth necessarily, it could be a men's mouth as well - and they found it sexist and misogynistic but we have a different opinion," he said.
