An estimated 100 shooting stars an hour were visible from the earth during the Perseid meteor shower, in footage released from NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, Wednesday. The Perseids debris field, which has been observed for at least 2,000 years, is visible every August, but were easier to see this year thanks to a new moon. The last time the Perseid's peak coincided with a new moon was in 2007. The meteor shower consists of bits of ice and dust which burn up in earth's atmosphere.
