Robotic dinosaurs and humanoid lobby staff helped guests check in to a hotel run by androids, at the Huis Ten Bosch theme park in Sasebo, Nagasaki, Wednesday. The 72-room hotel, set to open in full on July 17, is staffed by 10 robots and 10 humans. Its name, "Henn na," means 'strange hotel.' Developed by Osaka University and produced by Kokoro, the robots come in a range of guises, from androids designed to affect the features and mannerisms of young Japanese women, to robo-dinosaurs who speak fluent English. Androids also transport guests' luggage and place their suitcases into storage. At present, robots comprise 50 percent of the staff, but management hope to increase this to 90 percent in the future, which they say will help keep costs down and therefore room-rates too. Guests will reserve rooms in a bidding system that starts at around 7,000 yen ($57; €51).
