Scuffles broke out between Bulgarian police and members of Bulgaria's nationalist Ataka Party in Sofia, Tuesday, as Ataka supporters attempted to block police vehicles that were taking away their party leader Volen Siderov. Siderov and a fellow Ataka colleague from the Bulgarian Parliament Desislav Chukolov, were detained on Tuesday for 72 hours, facing charges of hooliganism. Siderov reportedly told police that he would begin a hunger strike. The Bulgarian Parliament voted on November 11 to agree to the arrest of Ataka founder Volen Siderov, together with Desislav Chukolov, in connection with criminal charges arising from their October 25 intrusion on students at the National Academy of Film and Theater Arts in Sofia. The right-wing, nationalist party have consistently argued that the Bulgarian government has been ill-prepared to deal with the refugee crisis and have proposed a stronger response along the lines of Viktor Orban's Hungarian government, who has built border fences and criminalised entrance into the country without identification papers.
