Protesters - many of whom migrants from Africa - took to the streets of the French-Italian border town Ventimiglia, Saturday, protesting the European position and policies towards the immigration crisis. Hundreds of migrants - most of whom from Sudan, Libya and Eritrea - have been stranded in Ventimiglia for weeks, as they had been turned away by the French authorities after crossing the Mediterranean. France refuses to accept the refugees, referring to the EU's Dublin Regulation, which states that the country asylum seekers enter first is responsible for examining their asylum request. Due to Italy's geographical location, many undocumented migrants enter Europe via the Italian coast. A record 1,439 migrants were intercepted by French border authorities in recent weeks, with over 1,100 reportedly deported to Italy.
